About our speaker:

Dr. Svenja Gudell is the chief economist of Zillow Group, where she runs an industry-leading research team of economists and analysts recognized by a wide audience of media, policymakers and professionals for its impartial, data-driven insight into housing markets, the broader economy and the relationships between the two. Under Svenja’s leadership, Zillow Group’s economic research team produces weekly and monthly reports on housing trends for hundreds of markets nationwide, from the nation to the neighborhood-level.

In addition to her team’s externally focused work, Svenja also leads several internal-facing teams at Zillow Group, including the housing forecast, behavioral sciences, population sciences, causal inference and data product teams. Collectively, these teams are responsible for producing actionable insights for the business using economic methods and data. These teams also produce thousands of local datasets across dozens of metrics, ranging from sales to rentals and inventory.

Prior to joining Zillow Group, Svenja worked on economic, financial and strategic consulting for Analysis Group, and was an assistant economist in the research group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Svenja has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Rochester, a master’s degree in economics from New York University, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Rochester, and a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Rochester.
