‘Risk & Resilience – Billion Dollar Disaster Analysis and U.S. Infrastructure’ with Adam Smith, Applied Climatologist, National Centers for Environmental Information, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Date: Thursday, May 6 Time: 12pm to 1pm EST Applied Climatologist Adam Smith discusses the historical context of the outsized number and severity of disasters in 2020 that exceed one billion dollars in damage. Mr. Smith, who leads the calculation of the costs of large natural disasters impact on the U.S., will also explain how such figures are informing the White House’s American Jobs Plan, and a path forward for building and upgrading infrastructure to reduce the cost of damage from large weather events and other natural disasters. REGISTRATION IS OPEN! Registration will remain open until 11am, Thursday, May 6, 2021. About our speaker: Adam Smith is an applied climatologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Centers for Environmental Information and is a leading expert for U.S. research to quantify weather extremes & climate disaster costs across society, government and industry sectors. His research seeks to homogenize and transition disparate disaster data sources into better quality-controlled disaster cost frameworks, as research tools.
