Dr. Michael Faulkender will describe the economic policies the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) believes would create widely shared prosperity by restoring and preserving the American free enterprise system. Policies that end rampant inflation, protect American workers and consumers from unfair trade practices, and incentivize investments in US production would lift communities across the country and restore the American economy to greatness.

About our Speaker:
Michael Faulkender serves as AFPI’s Chief Economist and is Dean’s Professor of Finance at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business. As AFPI’s Chief Economist, Dr. Faulkender leads the crafting of economic policy proposals that could be pursued legislatively or administratively. He also supports AFPI’s 20 policy centers in considering the economic implications of their various policy goals.
Previously, Dr. Faulkender served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy from 2019–2021, when he advised the Secretary on domestic and international issues that impacted the economy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he assisted in negotiating the CARES Act and was the senior Treasury official who led the implementation of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
Dr. Faulkender has been a faculty member at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the Kellogg School at Northwestern University, and the Olin School at Washington University in St. Louis. He has a PhD in Finance from Northwestern and a bachelor’s degree in Managerial Economics from UC Davis.
